Gary Clark Jr might be what I’ve been looking for. A bluesman that makes me certain of some bright future lying ahead for us all as I listen to the Bright Lights EP. And ‘Don’t Owe You a Thang’ plays right now as I write this morning and. It sounds something close to Elvis’ first big recording at Sun, ‘That’s Alright Ma’.
These are the kinds of mornings that I crave at nights when I finally surrender to sleep. The kind in which I wake up with the sun aware of evil and fear and yet am still ready to ride on high with it, to dance with it. In those moments I am aware of the thing that lurks out in the shadows while the sun shines. And while it remains I am filled with a strange insurmountable joy that I cannot describe and cannot resist.
