My only grievance with heaven
is the low premium
it places on living.
Put down your phone,
the tube
won’t deliver
you the truth.
Step away from your computer
and your handheld tv’s
Telling you what to think
what to worship, and who to be
Heaven awaits, it’s golden gates
Outside your door
The choral embrace
Just a quick turn
from the
dark crevices of your head.
You might look up, but
Look in front, and around
And as you breathe
in and out, remember Heaven is now
As knowledge means little
Experience is all
While you ask questions
Be wary of the know
Once we know, we are God
Denying our birthright
making false gods of strangers
prophets of public speakers
And ego
The tyrant of our minds
What does experience tell you?
The people you meet
Those you know
who you’ve kept close?
Tell me,
Are you close to them anymore?
Do you want to build a wall?
Will that make you feel good?
How safe will you be?
Tell me, how sound will you sleep?
At the top of your tree
All alone in your clubhouse
Tell me, are you free?
Which is the voice you hear?
Mine or yours?
How does it feel
To scream at invisible demons?
Making phantoms in the shadows?
And romance of death, some fetish-like fun?
As you grip the cold steel of a lovely man gun?
As you sit in your cabin
Alone in the woods
Dreaming of America
Tell me,
Do you really
feel good?
Life
Guided though it might be,
by relativity
We claim to know all we need,
With talk of civil war
Living the trigger fingered’s wet dream
If all’s been learned
We might as well build the wall
We might as well not live at all.
Have you ever truly
Given a day
To contemplate the meaning of
“American Way”
Are you that evangelical, preaching
Jesus’ name
While ignoring the broken,
The lost, and unnamed?
Give me your tired
Give me your poor
Are you that guy who asks
“What for?”
“Why me?”
As you dream of heaven
Some land, unseen?
Told you once
I’ll say it once more
Heaven awaits, it’s golden gates
Outside your door
The choral embrace
A quick turn
from the
dark crevices of your head.
And
You might look up, but
Look in front, and around
And as you breathe
in and out, remember Heaven is now
